Wakefield is a charming neighborhood full of locally owned restaurants, historic landmarks and a strong sense of community. This hidden gem has something for everyone to enjoy! It is a family-friendly neighborhood located in Sherman, Texas.
Wakefield is rich in history. The Burge House, a designated historical site, sits at Birge and Wood Street. The Birdhouse, built in 1896, replaced a home lost in the Sherman tornado of 1877. There are tons of historic homes in the area. Explore up and down Hopson street to discover homes built from about 1891 to 1910. Steve's favorite street is Bracket which is lined with cute cottages. Wakefield is full of cute pockets that offer historic small town charm.

For families with young children, Hillcrest Park is a must visit. The park is completely fenced in, making it the perfect spot to take kids. As Steve would say, "The kids cannot escape". Perfect place to let the kids run around outdoors giving parents some time to relax. Sherman offers great parks and outdoor activities.
New Developments
The neighborhood is evolving with projects like the Westwood Village Shopping Center remodel and the addition of Ace Hardware, giving the are a fresh feel while retaining its historic charm. The renovations are exciting and attract some new stores into town! Locals are happy to see owners reinvesting in retail communities and getting them fixed up. These new developments are needed as Sherman begins to boom. Texas Instruments is investing around $30 billion in a new semiconductor manufacturing campus in Sherman.
